Tarrytown, Sleepy Hollow Postpone Trick-Or-Treating

TARRYTOWN, N.Y. — Halloween trick-or-treating in Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow has been postponed to Friday as village crews work to clean up after Hurricane Sandy.

Hurricane Sandy downed several trees and power lines in Tarrytown, Sleepy Hollow and Irvington, making trick-or-treating unsafe.

Irvington village officials have also postponed trick-or-treating as well as the Fire Department's Halloween Block Party scheduled for Wednesday, but no date has been set.

"Given that power is out in most of the village, including streets lights and traffic lights, and given the likelihood that these services will not all be restored by tomorrow night, this is the best course of action for the safety of our children and our residents," Sleepy Hollow Mayor Ken Wray said in a statement.

Tarrytown officials said the move to Friday trick-or-treating would allow Con Edison to restore more power in the area.

The trick-or-treating delay began after parents raised concerns on the 10591 Facebook page.
