Tarrytown Sewage Dump Causes Hudson River Alert

TARRYTOWN, N.Y. – Westchester County residents are being advised to avoid direct contact with the Hudson River because a Tarrytown sewage line break is expected to discharge several million gallons of cholorinated raw sewage into the water.

The Westchester County Department of Health issued the advisory Wednesday evening for all points of the water south of Croton Point Park until further notice. Crews are bypassing the sewer line, causing the need for controlled discharges of sewage at points in Sleepy Hollow and Yonkers, the county said.

“Be advised to curtail your activities, including swimming, boating, kayaking, windsurfing and bathing in these waters until further notice,” the county said. “Notifications are being made to marinas located on the Hudson River as well as to affected municipalities.”
