Tarrytown Man Falls Victim To Craigslist Scam

TARRYTOWN, N.Y. – A Craigslist scammer bilked a Tarrytown man out of $1,930 using two phony money orders, Tarrytown Police said.

The Carroll Close resident was trying to sell his sofa on Craigslist for $499 when a potential buyer wired him the phony money orders and then requested the Tarrytown seller send him the difference of $1,371 to a Western Union in London.

The Tarrytown man did not send the difference, but deposited the money orders, where he learned from his bank that they were phony orders. The bank then told the resident he owed them $1,930.
