IRVINGTON, N.Y. A group of onlookers came to Bridge St. in Irvington on Sunday morning to look at the flooding: the Hudson River overspilled into the parking lot there. Water was a few inches deep on Saturday night and early Sunday morning before the sun came out.
Police had blocked off access to the parking lot on Sunday morning, although most of the flooding had dried up. The Hudson River churned angrily in front of onlookers. White crests topped the river's waves.
Dan Shefelman shot a photo of the flooded parking lot before the water receded, noting on The Daily Tarrytown's Facebook page that the lab statues are in their element. Foo Lions not so much.
Both Irvington and Tarrytown reported flooding in their villages, much of it on roadways. The Saw Mill Parkway was one of several county roads closed throughout the storm because of flooding.
Tarrytown police said they had a few downed power lines and trees too, but there were no injuries from the storm.
Irvington declared a state of emergency Saturday night. By Sunday morning, several streets in the village were closed because of the storm: Astor St., Station Road, Sunnyside Lane and N. Broadway. They also noted that the Hudson River parks were expected to be flooded as high tide approaches.
Con Edison listed several power outages in the Tarrytown and Irvington area, but the affected areas were not widespread.
