Tarrytown Hotel Celebrates 50 Years of Weddings

TARRYTOWN, N.Y. – Glenn and Linda Campbell were married on June 26 at the DoubleTree Hotel in Tarrytown.

“It was wonderful," Glenn said. "It was great.”

The two met 40 years ago. Linda was good friends with Glenn's sister. They say there's a lot in between when they met and when they got married, but it's a long story.

“It so happened we came together and here we are,” Glenn said.

The Campbells were part of a long line of couples who gathered at DoubleTree during a reception hosted by the hotel to celebrate its 50th year. The DoubleTree invited all the couples who have been married there since it opened on a Friday night in 1961.

The Campbells and other couples were given corsages and boutonnieres to pin to their jackets and dresses before a smiling photographer took their pictures.

Guests included the first couple who had their reception at the hotel and a few whose receptions were on the books for later this year, according to Linda Ferone, the director of catering.

Weddings have always been popular at the DoubleTree by Hilton-Tarrytown since it opened 50 years ago. The hotel has hosted more than 26,000 wedding receptions. That means more than 457,000 roses, 65,000 pounds of shrimp and 26,000 champagne toasts have been enjoyed there.

Ferone said the hotel's history and its space are part of what makes it very special. The hotel has the ability to do both indoor and outdoor receptions, which appeals to a lot of couples, she said.

The Campbells said they were at the event to come back and enjoy the festivities. They said certainly recommend the DoubleTree to people for a wedding reception.

“It's wonderful,” Linda said. “The staff was very helpful. We only have wonderful things to say about the DoubleTree.”
