Tarrytown Center to Host Scavenger Hunt Fundraiser

TARRYTOWN, N.Y. – Participants in an upcoming fundraiser for the Elizabeth Mascia Child Care Center in Tarrytown will need to use their brain cells if they want to come out on top.

The center is putting on its first annual scavenger hunt on April 21. Clues will take area residents through the villages of Tarrytown, Sleepy Hollow, Irvington and Briarcliff Manor to get to their final destination: dinner.

Fundraiser organizer and board of directors member Maggie Mascia said the idea for the fundraiser came from her own life.

“Years ago, my husband and I participated in one that took place in Chappaqua, Bedford and Katonah,” she said. “We had a ton of fun.”

Mascia said the plan is to have groups of four people meet at the center on Sheldon Avenue in Tarrytown around 4 p.m. From there, cars will be sent off in waves with their clues to scout their way to the final meeting place. Participants will find dinner and music at the end, with possibly a raffle.

Mascia said the hunt should take about one hour and fifteen minutes to complete. A winner will be determined based on how many clues were correctly answered, how long it took to complete the hunt and each car's mileage.

The fundraiser's proceeds will go directly to the center.

“We don't earmark it for a specific thing,” Mascia said. She said the center uses money from its fundraising events to supplement what tuition money doesn't cover, noting many of the kids come to the center on scholarship. Fundraising money will also contribute to enrichment programs at the center.

The scavenger hunt will cost $45 per person. The center asks that participants bring a smartphone or digital camera, a GPS system or map, flashlight and pens.

Reservations are required by April 7. Those wishing to take part should print out the flyer above and mail or email it to Mascia.
