Tarrytown Begins Pierson Park Demolition

TARRYTOWN, N.Y. – Demolition has begun in Pierson Park.

Village officials are planning a scaled-back rehabilitation project for the park and Andre Brook. Soon they'll begin taking bids for the actual construction portion of the plan.

Tarrytown Village Administrator Michael Blau said the village began demolition because it felt it could be separated from the original project and completed at a lower cost. Blau expects the demolition to be completed by mid-February.

Village trustees rejected submitted bids on the project in October because no one submitted a low-enough bid. Blau and other village staff have worked to reduce the cost of the program by about $1 million by making slight modifications.

“The project scope has not changed from the original project,” Blau said, noting that the village has only changed the number of trees and plants.

Additionally, village officials have chosen a pre-fabricated structure for the picnic pavilion rather than using stone and masonry. Blau also added that the performance pavilion will be able to be removed during the fall and will have less stone and less structure.

Blau said the rehabilitation project will be put out to bid in February and awarded in March. Construction should start in April and last a year, Blau estimated.
