Sleepy Hollow Students Ready For 'Grease!' Musical

SLEEPY HOLLOW, N.Y. – A group of Sleepy Hollow High School students are turning the school's auditorium into another high school for the annual spring musical.

Sleepy Hollow Players will feature “Grease!” on March 23 and 24. Students in grades nine through 12 are working to memorize their lines and dance moves for the popular musical about a group of Rydell High School seniors in 1959.

Performances will be held at 7:30 p.m. on both dates, as well as a 2 p.m. performance on March 24. Tickets will be sold at the door for $8 for adults and $5 for students and senior citizens.

Director and Performing Arts Department Chair Gail Persad said she chose “Grease!” for the spring musical “because it's fun.” She also noted many students requested the musical. This is Persad's 10th Sleepy Hollow production.

“Sandy and Danny overcome the obstacles of high school peer pressure, deciding they don’t need to change to please each other or their friends,” Persad said. “They live life as high school students with misunderstandings and encounters at the high school cafeteria, the local burger joint, the drive-in movie and the high school dance.”

Emily Eagan will be playing Sandy Dumbrowski next to Tomas Correa's Danny Zuko. Mike Fernandez plays fellow T-Bird member and Danny's best friend Kenickie. Kaitlyn Tuohy is playing Pink Ladies leader Rizzo.

Persad noted that “all the show's hits are sung live on stage by students that are the same age as the characters they are portraying.”

Orchestra Director Brittney Trenczer is directing a student and staff member band to accompany the performance. Art Director Heather Douglas is serving as set designer. Persad said that students Liz Sobolik and Ellen Glover are coaching choreography.
