Sleepy Hollow Opens Bidding For New Fire Truck

SLEEPY HOLLOW, N.Y. – The Sleepy Hollow Fire Department's request for a new fire truck is one step closer now that village trustees have put out a call for bids.

Trustees recently opened the bidding process after meeting with fire truck consultants Emergency Vehicle Response. The department has been working with the consultants to design a new fire truck at a cost so far of $6,500.

The department is “well in line for you to get more than just a couple of bids,” Tom Shand told officials. Shand is one of the fire truck consultants and said he expects the bids to be “very competitive.”

The fire department created its own specifications for the bidding process, and consultants made thirty-two changes to the design to ensure that it would be right for the village and the bidding process. A new fire truck would cost around $600,000.

Shand told officials that the market was right for them to buy a new fire truck because the economy still hasn't recovered and the bidding process will end before truck prices are expected to rise.

Trustee David Schroedel noted that the bond market was also favorable.
