Sleepy Hollow Hosts New Year's Community Dinner

SLEEPY HOLLOW, N.Y. – Sleepy Hollow is starting off 2012 with its second-annual community-wide dinner on NEw Year's Day at the James Galgano Senior Center.

“This meal is open to anyone, so invite friends and family,” Sleepy Hollow Village Administrator Anthony Giaccio said.

Residents will gather at the senior center from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. The senior center is located on Elm Street. Volunteers have to start arriving at 11 a.m. and Giaccio asks that anyone bringing food arrive between 11 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.

Several local residents and businesses have contributed food, with at least 10 people, including village board members and Sleepy Hollow Seniors president Josephine Galgano, donating and cooking turkeys for the dinner.

The Sleepy Hollow Cheerleaders, Girl Scouts and members of the Sleepy Hollow Police Department will help serve during the dinner. Giaccio said members of the Sleepy Hollow Fire Department will be carving while the junior firefighters will help clean-up.

The Lions Club has prepared take-home baskets of donated goods, Giaccio said, while several members from Rivertown Runners will help out and have donated trays of food.

Desserts will be provided by Joanne Murray and C-Town and Bridgeview Tavern, JP Doyle's, Santorini and Que Chula Es Puebla have donated food, Giaccio said.

“It's a great way to start the New Year,” Giaccio said. “Diet starts on Monday.”
