SLEEPY HOLLOW, N.Y. Deputy Mayor Tom Capossela has been on the village board for six and a half years and because of that, he says he won't be seeking reelection in the upcoming March elections.
I feel I've had a nice run, he said. It's time for the younger people to step up.
He was appointed to the board of trustees in 2004. He ran for mayor and lost in 2007. Since then, he's run successfully for reelection as a village trustee in 2008 and 2010.
Capossela has been a Sleepy Hollow resident for his entire 53 years. He noted his father was a village trustee and his grandfather served on the school board.
I enjoy living in Sleepy Hollow, he said.
Capossela said he's proudest of his work with the public works department: during his time as a trustee, the village reduced the number of employees by 1/3 and still does an excellent job.
Capossela also said he was proud of the relationships he developed on the police advisory committee and the village's appointment of Police Chief Gregory Camp. Capossela said Camp was a great police chief who could have his job as long as he wanted it.
In terms of the village's future, Capossela said he was looking forward to the General Motors redevelopment and hoped the village will get a new water storage tank soon.
