SLEEPY HOLLOW, N.Y. Site plans for the River's Edge development on the Castle Oil site could be approved by the Sleepy Hollow Planning Board as early as next month.
Planning board members are considering additional changes made to the development plans, including the elimination of underground parking after a January public hearing.
We really spent some time trying to reorganize the project and figure out how we could do it, architect John Jenkins told officials during a recent planning board meeting.
The National RE/sources group is seeking to build a 60-unit, multi-story building between Horan's Landing in Sleepy Hollow and the Hudson Harbor development in Tarrytown.
Developers say they plan to donate a pier that juts out into the Hudson to the Village of Sleepy Hollow for public use. Sleepy Hollow has already procured a state grant to study the pier. Developers say they also want to expand the RiverWalk park along the property's edge, connecting existing sections at Pierson Park in Tarrytown and Horan's Landing in Sleepy Hollow.
Changes include the elimination of underground parking, shifting a loading zone's position and moving the entrance and lobby to River Street.
What we've spent more time on though, developer Lynne Ward said, is on the architectural feel and the flavor of the property.
The site plan changes will enhance curb appeal, Ward said, adding that the changes will make it easier for fire trucks to access the property and that the changes meet the criteria of the special use permit.
River Street is now the front door to the project, Jenkins said.
Officials hope to have the project approved sooner rather than later because they want to remove the oil tanks on the property by the end of the year, Ward said.
