Sleepy Hollow Cleans Village, Parks For Earth Day

SLEEPY HOLLOW, N.Y. – Local organizations throughout the Tarrytowns will be out in full force Saturday and Sunday to clean up village parks and streets ahead of Earth Day.

"We're asking everyone to come out to support their village by making it a cleaner, better place to live," said Sean Roach, a member of the Sleepy Hollow Environmental Advisory Council. "Just a couple hours can make a huge difference."

Residents wishing to participate in village-wide cleanups will meet Saturday at Patriot's Park in Tarrytown at 9:45 a.m., where they will be given specific routes to clean. The cleanup will last from 10 a.m. to noon.

Organizers note that volunteers will be collecting discarded trash and urge participants to bring gardening gloves if they have them. Some gloves and vests will be available from organizers as well.

Volunteers will also work Saturday around the Tarrytown Lakes from 10 a.m. to noon. The Tarrytown Lakes Committee asks that volunteers meet in the Neperan Road parking lot at 10 a.m.

The Friends of Horan's Landing have organized a cleanup for the Sleepy Hollow riverfront park from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday.

Volunteers will take part in a cleanup and participate in Earth Day activities at Morse Park in Sleepy Hollow from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday.

Irvington residents will take to the Nature Center on Mountain Road, preparing gardens and the lawn since it has now been cleared of debris. Volunteers will be spreading compost on the site.

The work party will meet at 9 a.m. at the Nature Center, located at 170 Mountain Road. Organizers ask that volunteers bring work gloves and water to drink.
