Sister Teresa Martin, 94, Former Tarrytown Teacher

TARRYTOWN, N.Y. – Sister Teresa Martin, a former Tarrytown teacher, died Jan. 5 at Marymount Convent in Tarrytown. She was 94.

Born March 31, 1918, in Dublin, Ireland, she was the daughter of Stephen and Nora McGrath Martin. She entered the Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary in Tarrytown in 1938.

Martin taught at Marymount Secondary School in Tarrytown, Marymount School of New York and the Academy of the Sacred Heart of Mary in Manhattan. She ministered in Europe at the Marymount Schools in Paris, London, Barcelona and, for more than 40 years, at Marymount International School in Rome.

Martin was living at Marymount Convent in Tarrytown at the time of her death.

She is survived by many nieces and nephews in Ireland and Canada.

Services will be from 3-7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Marymount Convent. Visitation with a vigil service immediately following. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Thursday. Burial will be at Mount Calvary Cemetery in White Plains. Coffey Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
