Activities at the festival include a demonstration of the herding ability of Scottish border collies and the shorning by hand of the winter coats of sheep. Visitors can see and participate in the whole process of making woolen cloth.
Sheep-to-Shawl features hands-on activities for children and a photo-op with reproductions of 18th century clothes.
New for 2015 is The Art of the Reproduction — Recreating Period Textiles, which examines these techniques and their historic role and as a modern hobby. The festival will also feature an 18th century fashion show. Storyteller Jonathan Kruk will be on hand to provide tales.
Sheep-to-Shawl runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tickets are $14 for adults, $12 for seniors, $8 for children ages 3-17 if purchased online at: www.hudsonvalley.org. Admission is free for children under three and members of Historic Hudson Valley. Tickets are an additional $2 per ticket if purchased onsite.
