Beginning on Monday, the New York City DEP announced plans to test the upgraded release works at the new Croton Dam. Valve testing will be conducted through Thursday, May 18.
According to the DEP, while the new release works are tested, the flow of water within the Croton River will increase and fluctuate constantly throughout the day, causing potentially dangerous conditions.
In an effort to ensure public safety, the DEP has posted signage at parks, beaches and other points of access along the Croton River as the valve testing commences.
