WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. -- Almost two-thirds of the people injured in a car accident involving a teen driver are people other than the teen operating the vehicle, and the most dangerous time is during the summer months, according to a recent study by AAA.
The study analyzed data of police-reported crashes of drivers aged 15-19, from 1994-2013 and found that while the overall number of teen crashes is down, 66 percent of people injured in a crash involving a teen driver are people other than the teen. Nearly 50 percent of the injuries came from drivers or passengers in other vehicles, AAA reported.
In 2013 alone, 371,645 people were injured and 2,927 were killed in crashes that involved a teen driver, AAA said.
AAA refers to the period between Memorial Day and Labor Day as the "100 Deadliest Days," as fatal teen crashes historically climb during this period.
