The event, for which students gathered donations for walking laps around Sawn Lake, raised funds for “Little Cooks & Gardeners,” a gardening and cooking program for Pre-K classes at Stone Barns in Pocantico Hills. The program will introduced young children to the ideas of preparing and eating healthy foods.
Inspired by cool, comfortable weather, the “walkers” tackled the nearly one mile around Swan Lake with smiles as volunteers provided refreshments after each lap.
Students in kindergarten through second grade walked one mile, grades 3-5 will doubled that and grades 6-8 walked three miles to meet their sponsored challenges. Students in grades 6-8 will receive two hours community service credit for their participation.
With each walker donating up to $25, the foundation expects to raise $6,000 when the count is completed.
