SLEEPY HOLLOW, N.Y. -- Registration begins soon for the Pocantico Hills Day Camp.
Operated by the Pocantico Hills Central School in Sleepy Hollow, the camp is a fun, educational and safe place for campers from pre-kindergarten through grade eight. The camp welcomes children from both in and out of the school district. Registration begins on Thursday, March 31.
The camp has full use of the school and recreational facilities that include an Olympic-sized pool and separate wading pool, athletic fields, and an outdoor basketball court. Outdoor activities take advantage of the property and wilderness trails that surround the school.
The senior staff is composed primarily of teachers who run specialty areas and head grade-level groups. Junior staff consists of college and high school students. A registered nurse is on-site at all times with full access to medical records. The camper-counselor ratio is about 1:5.
Daily activities also include swimming, crafts, cooking, singing, computers and science. Field trips take place at every grade level, and there are weekly full-camp special events. Highlights for older campers include a 30-minute period after lunch when campers are free to choose from a variety of activities and the Wilderness Program with trips and overnight campouts that can include hiking, canoeing, tubing and campfire fun.
The six-week camp is accredited by the Westchester Department of Health, and camp dates are Tuesday, July 5, through Friday, Aug. 12. The fully coeducational camp runs Monday to Friday, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Campers can attend sessions from two weeks to six weeks. Pre- and post-camp care are available.
