The annual Open Door Holiday Toy Drive has begun, with Open Door Medical Centers accepting toy donations through Dec. 10 for children from newborns to 14 years old.
“Every year, the Open Door Foundation collects and distributes toys for children from families of less fortunate means to ensure every child will receive a brand new toy or gift during the holiday season,” the foundation said in a press release.
Open Door operates community health centers and school-based health centers aimed at economically-disadvantaged areas throughout Westchester with money from local, state and federal grants, as well as donations.
New, unwrapped toys between $10 and $20 will be accepted at Open Door Medical Centers in Sleepy Hollow, Port Chester, Ossining and Mount Kisco.
Officials hope to collect 2,500 toys. Outside help is particularly needed this year, officials say, because some corporate sponsors have cut their money to the program.
Open Door officials have created online wish lists at Amazon, Toys 'R' Us and Kohls. Monetary donations also will be accepted.
