Two women who spoke to News12 said they paid thousands in veterinary bills for their new puppies after they became sick within days of taking them home, said News12.

One of the dogs was found to be suffering from heartworms and another racked up more than $3,000 in bills for care. The women claim they were told the puppies were healthy and paid hundreds in adoption fees, added News12.

Lisa Birdsall, owner of Recycled Paws, told News12 that the dogs were seen by a doctor before they were adopted, but did not return calls to explain the  situation further, said News12.
