TARRYTOWN, N.Y. New York State Sen. Andrea Stewart-Cousins praised Westchester County and Scenic Hudson's vision of a better Hudson River on Wednesday.
When I was a child, we didn't pay much attention to the river, she said. You know what happened on the river - prisons, treatment plants. People weren't thinking of the resources, the beauty, the educational value.
Tarrytown, Westchester County and Scenic Hudson celebrated the opening of another stretch of the Scenic Hudson RiverWalk pathway at Pierson Park on Wednesday morning. The newest stretch of pathway along the Hudson River, which is .6 miles long, brings the total mileage of the RiverWalk park to nearly 33 miles.
Westchester County Executive Robert Astorino joined Tarrytown Philanthropist Kathryn W. Davis in cutting a bright red ribbon to the newest section of the park. Astorino noted this wasn't his first time opening a new section of the park at Pierson Park. He was in Tarrytown in 2010 when the first section opened up.
Quite frankly, this is a habit I'm beginning to enjoy, he said.
Drew Fixell, Tarrytown mayor, thanked state, county and village officials for their work in securing the project.
The RiverWalk park is part of the village's ongoing waterfront improvement project, which includes shoreline stabilization, the RiverWalk Park, rehabilitating Pierson Park and restoring Andre Brook.
