There will be overnight ramp closures on the southbound state Thruway this week as Tappan Zee Constructors LLC begins installing the first of four precast concrete crossbeams that will connect the span towers of the new bridge and support its future road deck.

The beams were barged to the work site from Virginia, according to officials. They will be hauled into place by the I Lift NY supercrane.

Soon after, demolition will begin on the Thruway maintenance facility of the former maintenance offices in Tarrytown, officials said. Maintenance teams for the new bridge currently operate from a temporary facility near Exit 12 in West Nyack.

A new maintenance facility will be constructed in place of the old Tarrytown site. Work is set to begin in the spring, officials said.

Testing of the new bridge's all-electronic toll collection system also will be taking place in Rockland County. Testing will continue through the week near Exit 10 (Nyack-South Nyack-Route 9W) and Exit 11 (Nyack-South Nyack-Route 9W) on-ramps to the southbound New York State Thruway.

According to officials, the testing will necessitate closing the on-ramps during the overnights through Friday, Feb. 12. Drivers will be directed to use the Exit 12 (West Nyack-Route 303-Palisades Center Drive) on-ramp from Route 303 in West Nyack. Signs will be posted to advise motorists of the detour route.

Additionally, the work will require overnight closures of up to three lanes of the southbound Thruway throughout the remainder of this week and during the coming week.

The all-electronic toll collection system is expected to be activated this spring, officials said.
