Motorist Charged After Tarrytown Crash, Dispute

TARRYTOWN, N.Y. – A man was taken to the Westchester County Medical Center and later charged with a misdemeanor after an apparent road rage dispute on Route 9, Tarrytown police said.

Jose Viera, 30, faces a charge of third-degree menacing.

Viera called police saying his car had been hit by another car on Highland Avenue while he was crossing the road at around noon Jan. 6. Viera told police he chased the car to Hamilton Place, but then lost it.

Viera complained of elbow and leg pain and was taken to the hospital.

The other motorist drove to police headquarters and reported he had been attacked by the man on Benedict Avenue after getting into a dispute. Police took an additional statement from Viera and later arrested him.

Police also reported the following items:

  • A Warner Library patron reported Jan. 5 she  left her wallet at the library and it is missing.
  • James Vieweg, 32, was charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a misdemeanor, after police stopped his car on White Street and allegedly found heroin in his possession around midnight Jan. 4.
  • Paramedics took an allegedly drunk man to Phelps Memorial Hospital around 5 p.m. Jan. 3 after he fell at the Tarrytown Train Station.
  • A dead deer was spotted lying in the median of Route 9 near Lyndhurst  Jan. 3.
