TARRYTOWN, N.Y. The Montefiore Medical Center has agreed to purchase of the Kraft Foods building in Tarrytown and relocate 850 jobs to the village.
Kraft Foods will lease half of the building from Montefiore and keep about 200 jobs on the site.
Montefiore plans to occupy the premises beginning in the first quarter of 2013 and is respectful of the unique nature of the grounds and its location next to historic Lyndhurst, Montefiore spokesperson Helene Guss said in a statement.
The Kraft Foods Company announced in January that it would move most of its employees from the Tarrytown office to Chicago by the end of the year as part of a restructuring project. But Kraft's plans to move out of the building were scrapped in April when it announced it would keep about 200 jobs in Tarrytown.
Guss said the 300,000-square-foot facility would be used to house business and administrative positions for the academic medical center, which is the university hospital for the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and serves 2 million residents in the Bronx and Westchester.
The existing corporate offices in Westchester will be used to expand our information technology operations, thus retaining additional jobs in the region, Guss said.
