Monitor Says Westchester Violates Fair Housing Settlement, Faces Fines

WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. – The monitor assigned to supervise Westchester County’s compliance with a Fair Housing settlement says the county has defied court orders and could be subject to hefty fines, according to lohud.com.

County officials have not complied with a court order to build more affordable housing in predominantly white communities, and monitor James Johnson has asked the U.S. attorney’s office to determine the next steps, lohud.com reported.

It is possible Westchester County could be fined $60,000 each month it is not in compliance, and ultimately forced to build more affordable housing units, according to lohud.com.
