Man Feared Drowned In Hudson River

COLD SPRING, N.Y. -- The Putnam County Sheriff's Office is investigating a possible drowning in the Hudson River off Cold Spring on Tuesday afternoon.

A search is under way for a 46-year-old man who possibly drowned in the Hudson River.

A 46-year-old man from Beacon was with a group of people at Liddle Sandy Beach at Hudson Highlands State Park, and was swimming in the Hudson River in an area not patrolled by lifeguards, according to the Sheriff's Office. 

The man reportedly became distressed in the water and called for help but he sank below the surface before any of his companions could reach him, according to the Sheriff's Office. The victim's identity is being withheld at the moment. 

Numerous patrols are searching for the victim including the Cold Spring Fire Department, Philipstown Ambulance Corps, Mahopac Falls Fire Department and its Dive Team and the Westchester County Police Department.
