Letter: Tarrytown Ambulance Corps Resolves Sexual Harassment Complaint

SLEEPY HOLLOW, N.Y. — The Sleepy Hollow Daily Voice accepts signed, original letters to the editor. Letters may be e-mailed to letters@sleepyhollow.dailyvoice.com.

To the Editor,

On March 14, 2012, the Board of Directors of the Tarrytown Volunteer Ambulance Corps met to vote on whether to terminate the membership of Mr. Alaric Young. The board did not have the required number of votes for a definitive decision.

TVAC regrets that misinformation has been released to the press by unknown sources. This is a tactic we are confident that the public will recognize and ignore. On May 17, 2012, a Grievance Committee called by Mr. Young and consisting of three appointed board members and three elected riding members, met and decided that under the circumstances and pursuant to TVAC's bylaws, the suspension of Mr. Young's membership should be lifted. Mr. Young has been restored to full membership and privileges.

TVAC has now adopted the Village of Tarrytown’s sexual harassment policy. This replaces the previous sexual harassment policy. The new policy permits members to file complaints with the Tarrytown village administrator.

It is the board’s expectation that the foregoing courses of action bring to a conclusion a matter that has been very difficult to resolve. Our members remain committed to and focused on the Corps’ mission of high quality ambulance service for the Tarrytown community. The board will strive to insure that the corps is a place where all members can serve in an atmosphere of mutual respect and professionalism.
