Borgia and her team had been fighting in court with Republican challenger Peter Tripodi over the validity of the Support Our Seniors Party, but  the court challenge was dropped yesterday. Tripodi had claimed she didn't have enough signatures for the party.

Borgia will still be on the Democratic, Independence and Working Family Lines. District 9 covers Ossining, Briarcliff, Peekskill, Croton and Cortlandt.

"It's good that she dropped it," Tripodi said. "She realized she had no case. It's just a waste of time and taxpayer money. It's one of the reasons of our court system is so backlogged, because of frivolous cases like this.

Borgia said she will transition Support Our Seniors into a non-profit to benefit seniors throughout Westchester.

"We want to be an advocacy group for seniors and work on their behalf," Borgia said. "We want to help municipalities do better panning to support our growing

While Tripodi has claimed she created the party as a political ploy, Borgia said she wanted to give seniors a voice.

"When people vote, politicians take notice," Borgia said. "We decided not to go forward. It becomes a point where you have to manage your resources. Everyone attacks everyone's petition. That's not the important issue. It's fighting for the people."

Tripodi said Borgia is not supportive of seniors, since she walked out of voting on the county budget that supported seniors. In December, Republicans and two Democrats voted on the budget after the other legislators adjourned the meeting and left the chamber.

"The budget that was passed hurt seniors," Borgia said. "We adjourned the meeting to continue negotiations. That budget hurt the people of Westchester and the people of the 9th District. That was a bad budget, passed in a bad way."

Borgia said the Democrats; budget did not include a tax increase and charged that Tripodi had never voted yes on a budget during his tenure on the Ossining Town Board.

"I have a long track record of helping seniors," Borgia said. "No nasty personal attack from Mr. Tripodi or his supporters still me from doing the work I'm here to do going forward."
