Irvington Students Spell Their Way To Victory

IRVINGTON, N.Y. – You can spell the names of fourth-grader Aidan Meaney and fifth-grader Chrysmine Wong as “W-I-N-N-E-R.” The two Main Street School students took top honors during the fifth annual Main Street School Spelling Bee on Monday.

Meaney was able to correctly spell the word “predecessor,” while Wong had the right spelling for “critique.” Fifth-grader Samantha Kimura was the runner-up in her grade level. Leo Abbattista took runner-up status in the fourth grade.

Irvington Mayor Brian Smith and Middle School Principal David Sottile moderated the bee. Judges included reading teacher Helene Imber, library media specialist Jackie Richardson, fifth-grade teacher Christina Sclafani and fifth-grade teacher Ronni Alpert.

The top 31 students in each grade competed in the bee. Finalists were determined by a pre-bee that took place on November 28.
