Irvington Postpones Trick-Or-Treating, Block Party

IRVINGTON, N.Y. — Irvington officials are encouraging residents to go trick-or-treating on Friday, not Wednesday, because storm damage from Hurricane Sandy is still causing safety concerns.

Downed trees were still on Irvington streets Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday morning.

The Irvington Fire Departments Halloween Block Party has also been pushed back to Friday.

"Please keep your children home tonight: it simply is not safe without street lights, downed wires and falling trees," an announcement from the village said. "Thank you for your cooperation!"

The block party will take place from 4 to 7 p.m. in front of the firehouse.
