Irvington Police Checkpoint Yields 52 Summonses

IRVINGTON, N.Y. – A traffic and safety checkpoint conducted by the Irvington Police Department before the Memorial Day weekend led to 52 summonses being issued.

Police set up a checkpoint on Route 9 between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. on May 24 near Immaculate Conception Church. Police said the checkpoint was part of their “continuing effort to take unsafe trucks off the local roads, increase compliance with the New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law and assure that home-improvement contractors doing business in the local community are properly licensed.”

Police used a license plate reader to check 6,592 vehicles at the checkpoint.

Police said one person was arrested for operating a vehicle with a suspended registration, a misdemeanor, and another was arrested for driving without a license. They also issued 49 summonses for various traffic infractions, gave 59 commercial vehicles warnings and impounded three vehicles including a dump truck, a box truck and a pick-up truck.

Police said 23 home-improvement contractors were checked, yielding one summons for operating without a home-improvement license and one summons for operating without workers' compensation insurance.
