Irvington Football Prepares For Tough Lourdes Team

IRVINGTON, N.Y. ? One of the toughest schedules in Section 1 Class B football continues for the Irvington football team Friday when it visits top-ranked Lourdes. But the Bulldogs have their first win of the season to give them a boost.

Facing continuation of its losing streak last Saturday, the Bulldogs got a fourth-quarter touchdown from Josh Grotenstein to pull out a 31-28 victory over Ardsley for their first win this fall. Irvington will get little time to celebrate, however, with unbeaten Lourdes on tap for a 6:30 p.m. start in Poughkeepsie.

The Bulldogs (1-3) have played well at times but lost close games to three strong teams ? Edgemont (3-1), Woodlands (4-0) and Croton (3-1) ? before beating Ardsley.

Irvington is led by quarterback Dillon Arrigo, who tossed touchdown passes to brother Nick and Shoran Tamura last week, and running backs Grotensten and Hunter Gizzi. Tamura led the ground game last week with 141 yards rushing and also completed three passes for 114 yards and a score.

The Bulldogs' defense has struggled, allowing more than 30 points per game, while the offense has scored 27 a game. Lourdes is big on both sides of the line, so Irvington needs to use its quickness to put up points.

Dillon Arrigo's arm and Tamura's athleticism will be the keys for Irvington in this game. Arrigo completed 9 of 14 passes for 64 yards and two touchdowns last week and will need a big day against Lourdes.
