IRVINGTON, N.Y. Irvington trustees are considering whether to rezone a section of the village in an effort to decrease density and development.
The affected area is north of Strawberry Lane and Riverview Road, east of Broadway and west at the intersection of Riverview Road with Riverview Court.
The area has a subdivision and a number of large parcels, such as the Abbott House, according to Marianne Marra, a member of the architectural review board. The comprehensive plan that was adopted in 2003 identified those large parcels, Marra said, but it didn't specifically suggest rezoning them.
The village worked with an independent planner, Stuart Taylor, to see if it made sense to rezone the area, Marra said. The planner submitted a report saying rezoning the area would be a good idea.
If the board is interested in that rezoning, essentially what their report says is it's a good idea, it's consistent with the comprehensive plan, Marra said.
Marra suggested giving notice to all the property owners if the board decides to rezone the area.
They may raise points we didn't think of, she said.
Trustees debated what types and sizes of zoning lots would be best for the area. They then asked that the village ask the planner to look at and give his opinion on what types of lots the area should be zoned for.
