Despite lack of power in several areas of the village, four downtown venues ? Southside Avenue, Village Hall Gallery, Maud's on Spring Street and the Station Cafe (Metro-North train station) ? will host jazz, street art, a slide show and a reception. The programs will be presented by The Blue Door Gallery, 12 Miles North, graffiti artist Katie Reidy and the Recreation Department.
"We encourage people to come out and enjoy the event," Hastings Mayor Peter Swiderski said. "The streets are safe in the downtown area, and we hope the event will help get us back to normal. It will be a good time for people to meet, support the local businesses and artists and give each other a lift."
The evening begins at Village Hall Gallery with a 6 to 9 p.m. reception for Blue Door Gallery’s “Street Art on the Road to Hastings-on-Hudson." The Station Cafe will feature jazz from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m., and street artist Reidy will work her magic on Southside Avenue.
Matt Cleary, curator of 12 Miles North, will present "Street Art Transmitted," a slide show featuring the work of local photographers. The slides will be projected on the wall of Maud's Tavern on Spring Street.
"People are dealing with no power and we hope to bring a little bit of fun and art to the communties," Cleary said. "The event won't distract local police or other workers from doing the important job of taking care of the community. We hope people will jump on the Metro [from Dobbs Ferry, Tarrytown, Yonkers] and come out to enjoy the event."
