The hair salon, at 137 Main St. in the village, recently celebrated its grand opening after having a soft opening in November.

The salon is run by sisters Val Tana and Zamira Cutra, with Val doing the styling and Zamira handling things from the business end.

"We fell in love with Ossining," said Tana, who lives in Hartsdale. "We wanted to restore and renovate this building. We knew it would be the perfect fit for us."

VaZa Salon is in the former home of the 3,000 square foot Ossining National Bank, originally built in the 19th century. Cutra said she loved the history of Ossining and its community.

"I definitely knew there is where we wanted to open a business," Cutra, who lives in Somers, said.

Tana said they aim to give clients a relaxing experience when they get their hair cut and styled. When clients come in, they change into a robe using one of two changing rooms and are offered a beverage. Clients are led to a shampoo bed made in Paris. Tana said the shampoo beds have a six-month wait list.

"We offer topnotch service," Tana said. "Our stylists have a lot of experience and we are always keeping up to date by taking classes."

Tana and Cutra said they are both passionate about hair and love what they do.

With VaZa Salon, Tana and Cutra are hoping to give clients an experience they could usually only receive in Manhattan. Like Manhattan salons, VaZa Salon boasts a corner location and 13 foot ceilings.

"We want to bring people up to Ossining," Cutra said. "We love the river."

Tana said they already have clients from Ossining and surrounding municipalities like Briarcliff Manor and Tarrytown.

"We are family people and we want people to feel like they are home," Tana said. "We have tables and outlets if you need o work. We want this to be an extension of home."

VaZa Salon also hosts bridal parties and offers services like waxings
