Dr. Gutwein is board certified in internal medicine and rheumatology. She specializes in a full range of rheumatic conditions, including osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, Sjogren’s syndrome, osteoporosis, gout, and musculoskeletal disorders such as fibromyalgia, carpel tunnel syndrome and tendinitis.
Dr. Gutwein attended medical school at New York College of Osteopathic Medicine, where she was inducted into the National Honor Society. She completed her three-year internal medicine residency at Westchester Medical Center, followed by a two-year rheumatology fellowship, also at WMC.
After her fellowship, she was in private practice in New Rochelle and served as assistant director of the rheumatology clinic at Montefiore New Rochelle Hospital and as physician educator at the hospital.
Dr. Gutwein’s diagnostic and treatment approaches include new blood tests to help identify activity at the subclinical level, enabling an earlier intervention; exciting new medications with longer dosing intervals to keep patients feeling better longer and allow them to resume their regular activities within three to four weeks instead of months; DEXA machines for bone density scans used in the treatment and prevention of osteoporosis; and intravenous infusion therapies for various rheumatic disorders, provided at the Infusion Center at Phelps Memorial Hospital.
Dr. Gutwein is seeing patients at the Phelps Medical Associates offices in Sleepy Hollow, Tarrytown and Croton-on-Hudson.
