The workshop, “Bullying, Cyberbullying, and Youth Depression,” will be facilitated by John Halligan. Halligan lost his son, Ryan in 2003. Ryan committed suicide after being bullied by classmates at school and online. He was only 13 years old.
“Bullying is a very serious issue that many of our children can face in many different forms each and everyday,” said Julio Delgado, Director of Student Services Greenburgh Central and organizer of the workshop. “Our teachers consistently attend workshops to address issues that affect our students. However, this presentation specifically offers parents tips and strategies to help them take preventive actions when dealing with their own children. ”
"Ryan's Story" is a special event for parents where Halligan will discuss bullying, cyber-bullying and youth depression that led to his son's death. Halligan most recently gave a presentation at the Valhalla High School.
“Many parents think it doesn’t affect them and it’s not their kids,” added Delgado. “We hope Mr. Halligan’s tragic and personal story will help our parents understand the reality of this problem and empower them to take any necessary steps to keep their children safe.”
