Golden Knives Challenge Tops Tarrytown's News This Week

TARRYTOWN, N.Y. - Here are a few of the top stories from this week in Tarrytown, Sleepy Hollow and Irvington:

Carl Van Dekker of The Village Dog in Tarrytown bested his competition and won the Golden Knives Challenge after three weeks of intense competition.

Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow residents elected Jennifer Liddy-Green , Carol Banino and Vincent Nadile to the Board of Education and passed a $68.7 million budget.

Irvington residents elected Robert Grados and John Montgomery to the Board of Education and passed a $54 million school budget that went over the tax cap.

Pocantico Hills residents elected Fred Rickles and Emily Segal and passed a $29 million budget.

Irvington pressed forward with plans to create a historic district.

Family and friends gathered to mourn the death of Andrea Rebello, 21, of Tarrytown. Rebello was a junior at Hofstra University who was killed at her home a block from campus during a police standoff with an armed home invader.

Enrique Ansell, 26, of Sleepy Hollow was charged with a Cortlandt Manor man in the death of Kujtim Rushiti during a drug deal in Greenburgh.

Keith Thigpen, 20, of Tarrytown was charged with two Mount Vernon men in the stabbing death of a 49-year-old Yonkers man.
