Crews from Almstead Tree, Shrub and Lawn Care in New Rochelle were working near the intersection of Irving Place and Cliff Avenue, at a location containing a sizeable beehive, temporarily closing a portion of the roadway as a crane was utilized to safely remove the tree and protect the bees.

According to Almstead officials, because bees are important pollinators, arrangements were made months ago to bring in Tony Bees, a specialist, to help preserve the lives of as many of the bees as possible. Bees reportedly used a tarp, was able to contain the bees and removed the entire hive.

There were no injuries reported, and contractors said that the bees were taken away without incident, though they mused that “by the end, there was just one that got away and was flying around.”
