The latest storm is expected to drop between six and 18 inches of snow, bringing with it wind gusts upwards of 50 mph, with the snow peaking Wednesday and continuing through Thursday morning, possibly causing troublesome conditions.

In response, Con Edison said that in addition to 2,000 of its own field forces and support personnel, the company has retained about 350 mutual aid workers that have been working with the company on recovery and reinforcement efforts from two prior nor’easters this month. Crews will work on restorations during the storm as long as weather permits.

“Once the storm passes, Con Edison crews will conduct damage assessment immediately to plan restoration efforts, with the goal of prioritizing public safety, de-energizing downed wires and restoring critical facilities such as hospitals,” officials stated. “Crews will then proceed with restorations that will get the greatest number of customers back online as quickly as possible.”

In advance of the storm, Con Edison offered a series of tips to Westchester residents:

  • Do not go near downed wires because they could be live. Never attempt to move them or touch them with any object. Be mindful that downed wires can be hidden from view by snow, tree limbs, leaves or water.
  • Report downed wires to Con Edison and your local police department immediately. If a power line falls on your car while you’re in it, stay inside the vehicle and wait for emergency personnel.
  • If your power goes out, disconnect or turn off appliances that would otherwise turn on automatically when service is restored. If several appliances start up at once, the electric circuits may overload.
  • Make sure your flashlights and any battery-operated radios or televisions are working. Have a supply of extra batteries. Weather updates and news on electrical service can be heard on local radio and television stations.
