Community Grieves For Lacey Carr, 6-Year-Old Who Died Sunday In Croton

CROTON-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. -- Mourners gathered at the Edward F. Carter Funeral Home Thursday for a wake for Lacey Carr, the 6-year-old Croton resident who died Sunday.

Lacey's funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Holy Name Of Mary Church in Croton.

Lacey was found unresponsive by her father, David Carr, Sunday afternoon in her home on Hastings Avenue in Croton, according to Croton Police Sgt. John Nikitopoulos. Lacey was taken to Phelps Memorial Hospital Center in Sleepy Hollow where she was pronounced dead. 

Kathleen Dymes, Lacey's mother, also was found unconscious and was taken to Phelps, where she is in critical condition, according to Tina Dorfman, a spokeswoman for Phelps.

Police have ruled out carbon monoxide as a cause and said they still are investigating., awaiting the autopsy results. Dymes and Lacey lived at the home with Dymes' father, Kevin.

Dymes has hired Carmel attorney Christopher Maher, According to LoHud. Maher did not respond to a request for comment.

John Hunt said his daughter was friends with Lacey and he is trying to help her get through it.

"We're comforting her and answering all the questions she has," Hunt said. "Lacey was a sweet girl, she loved to play and laugh. She was a very nice little girl, I'm still trying to digest it."

Hunt said the circumstances of Lacey's death have left him with a sick pit in his stomach..

"With the way this investigation seems to be going, I just don't know," Hunt said.

Leah Aizem, whose daughter is in second grade at Carrie E. Tompkins Elementary School, which Lacey attended, said she can't make sense of the tragedy.

"It makes me grateful to be with my child," Aizem. "There are really are no words."

Aizem said she has been in a fog all week and that she didn't want to tell her daughter too much about what happened to Lacey.

Besides her parents and grandfather, Lacey is survived by her brothers David Carr, Daniel Miller and Benjamin Miller.
