Additional Testing For New Tappan Zee Bridge Starts Monday

TARRYTOWN, N.Y. – Crews will begin more geotechnical surveys in the Hudson River on Monday ahead of  construction for the Tappan Zee Bridge.

The work will help get additional engineering analysis of the river bottom so designers can figure out the sizing of piers and supporting foundations of the bridge, the New York State Thruway Authority said.

Two drilling rigs stationed near the tower locations will begin work Monday, with an additional rig coming in a few weeks. Work will  The rigs will work their way across the river, running continually from Monday through Friday and possibly Saturday. The work is expected to take eight weeks.

Officials say the expected noise levels will be minimal.

Limited boring work will also be conducted under the existing bridge and just north on Thruway property, the Thruway said. Work will be conducted between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
