Tarrytown's Make A Wish Hosts Annual 5K Walk In Yorktown

YORKTOWN HEIGHTS, N.Y. -- Make-A-Wish Hudson Valley's 9th Annual Walk and 5k Run raised more than $85,000 earlier this month at Franklin D. Roosevelt State Park in Yorktown Heights.

Money will be used to help grant wishes to children with life-threatening medical conditions and enrich their lives. The run/walk on Nov. 2 was presented by Trusted Choice Independent Insurance Agents.

Thomas J. Conklin, president and chief executive officer of Make-A-Wish Hudson Valley, said that in the 28 years since the Hudson Valley chapter was established, it has helped grant more than 2,280 wishes of youngsters between the ages of 2 and 18 in the counties it serves (Delaware, Dutchess, Orange, Putnam, Rockland, Sullivan, Ulster and Westchester) Currently, the chapter is working on more than 165 pending wishes and the average cost of each wish ranges between $7,500 and $10,000.

Awards were presented to recognize stand-out fund-raising accomplishments.

Joe Capobianco of White Plains won the Top Individual Fundraiser Award by raising $8,100. Keep Calm and Wish On! of Westchester won the Top Team Award by raising $5,451.11.  Tommy’s Team of Yorktown Heights came in second with $4,125. Tommy was one of several alumni children from prior Walk & 5K Run for Wishes who participated along with their families and friends. Here are the winners in the 5K Run and their times:
