Tarrytown Man Dressed As Bear Runs For A Cause

TARRYTOWN, N.Y. – There's a guy in a bear suit running all over Tarrytown.

Kai Madden has taken on an unusual challenge: to compete in the Tough Mudder obstacle course in a full bear costume. The challenge is part of his efforts to raise money for Animals Asia's Vietnam Bear Rescue Center.

Kai Madden has taken on an unusual challenge: to compete in the Tough Mudder obstacle course in a full bear costume. The challenge is part of his efforts to raise money for Animals Asia's Vietnam Bear Rescue Center.

“I want to do everything I can to help Animals Asia end their suffering,” Madden said.

Madden's goal is to raise $100,000 by Oct. 13. He competed in the Tough Mudder course last weekend and says he'll run it again in costume if the goal is met.

The Tough Mudder competition is a 10 to 12-mile course designed by British special forces, testing participants' strength, stamina and grit. Madden raised $2,020 so far.

Madden said he hopes running around the village in his bear suit will spark interest in Animals Asia's work.

Animals Asia works to end the bear bile trade and operates bear sanctuaries in China and Vietnam for bears who have been rescued from bear bile farms. Madden's fundraising will help the group buy an ultrasound machine, which will allow rescuers to assess health in bears involved in the bile trade.
