Tarrytown Dance Company Plans International Collaboration

TARRYTOWN, N.Y. – A Tarrytown dance company is planning a trip halfway around the world to help victims of sex trafficking.

Evolve Dance artists and co-founders Julie Johnson and Karenne Koo plan to conduct workshops in Vietnam in August with the Pacific Links Foundation (PALS) to develop a dance program at a PALS shelter for trafficking survivors.

Evolve Dance artists and co-founders Julie Johnson and Karenne Koo plan to conduct a workshop in Hanoi, Vietnam in August with the Pacific Links Foundation (PALS) to develop a dance program at a PALS shelter for trafficking survivors. Johnson and Koo also plan to conduct a weeklong exploratory dance residence for young women in the shelter, located in Lao Cai, Vietnam.

The dance company is raising money for travel expenses, artists fees and a scholarship program for the dance program. So far, 70 percent of the needed $10,400 has been raised.

“The project recognizes that the arts in general and dance in particular have evolved with human beings as a way of creating mutuality and understanding existence,” the group said in a press release. “Through this collaboration with Pacific Links Foundation, Evolve Dance hopes to initiate development of a preliminary dance program that can be adjusted and/or refined in an on-going effort to build sustainable arts programming for the shelter”
