Robert Siebrecht, 59, Tarrytown Native

TARRYTOWN, N.Y. – A memorial service will be held Saturday for Robert Martin Siebrecht, formerly of Tarrytown, who died Dec. 26, 2011 at his home in Savoy, Ill. He was 59. 

The service is scheduled for 11 a.m. at the Reformed Church of the Tarrytowns with the Rev. Jeffrey Gargano officiating. 

Siebrecht was born July 9, 1952 in Tarrytown to Irving A. Siebrecht and Dolores Schaffner Siebrecht. He graduated from Bridgeport University in Connecticut and moved to Urbana, Ill. in 1981 to attend graduate school at the University of Illinois. 

After received a master's degree in journalism, Siebrecht began teaching news writing and photography at the College of Agriculture at the University of Illinois. He loved teaching and advising students. 

Aside from teaching, he loved music. His Martin guitar was a special possession and often the source of entertainment for his friends and students at gatherings. He also was a collector of autographs and memorabilia that reminded him of his childhood. 

He is survived by his wife, Delora; a brother, Irving (Alison) Siebrecht of North Salem; two stepsons, Kenneth (Jennifer) Foster, of Mahomet, Ill., and Chris (Kelly) Foster, of Champaign, Ill.; five step grandchildren and an uncle. 

Memorial donations may be made to the Champaign County Humane Society in Urbana or Carle Hospice in Urbana.
