The community has come together to help 25 people, eight families, who were forced out of their homes Friday after a fire broke out in an apartment building on Mount Pleasant Avenue. No one was hurt in the blaze but residents will not be able to return home until sometime next year
Mayor Tom Murphy put out a plea on his Facebook page, seeking necessities like clothing and toiletries as the families stay at the Community Resource Center. Residents quickly responded.
By Saturday morning, Murphy marveled at how quickly the community responded, saying they already had enough clothes.
"I am overjoyed and overwhelmed by the kindness and generosity of the people of our community have shown the victims of this tragedy," Murphy said. "I am the luckiest mayor in America to represent such an amazing community."
Murphy said more financial assistance is needed. Checks can be made out to Community Resource Center, note “fire victims” on the check. The checks can be mailed to the CRC at 134 Center Ave Mamaroneck, NY, 10543
