Irvington residents Renee and Stephen Petro are parents to Irvington Union Free School District Students Gwen, Sierra and Ryan (grades 2, 8 and 12).
Ouch! Cuts in learning and teachers hurt kids education, lifelong learning and property values now and in the future too! Parents, students, community residents and voter s of the Irvington School District: stop the insanity and the "bleeding, maiming and killing of grades 5 and 6 Spanish and French plus cuts in Irvington High School World Foreign Language cuts is academically painful for kids. Cutting courses and increasing class size Spanish/French in Irvington High School grades 9-12 destroys students potential to learn at their academic level (regular, honors and AP courses) and with best quality academically strong Irvington school teachers leading World Foreign Language Instruction Spanish and French during school day hours!
Let your voice and future vote for or against Irvington Board of Education President John Dawson and trustee Robyne Camp be known too by going to the March 6 public Board of Education Irvington meeting which starts at 7:30 pm at Irvington High School in Campus Presentation room in the library. Every Irvington school district resident (kids may go first) has right to speak three minutes or less on the Spanish and French cuts and/or any concern and budget item proposed (or not included) interim superintendent's 2012-2013 school budget. Keep up the constitutional and voters rights to be heard on what matters to you, your kids and quality of life/education/property values in now and future when you sell or leave property as inheritance! Showing up and speaking at the March 6 meeting is important and can cause change; expect media to be there and report truth of public and parent views and support for NO CUTS in the current program in World Foreign Language in ANY GRADE (5, 6 or grades 9-12).
Remember once teachers and academic courses CUT will NOT be back other years! We should be doing more languages and at even younger grades rather than starting once a week with 40 minutes in grade 5 as a start (half year Spanish and half year French), but keeping things the way they are 2011-2012 school year is BEST for now based on this budget and money concerns! The interim superintendent and three of the five elected Board of Education trustees want to cut teaching positions in Irvington grades K-12 (ranges from 10 to 15 positions depending on date/time, where you read news and who you believe)!
Thank you for your time, consideration and future advocacy!
P.S. If anyone in your household will be 18 or older by May 15 AND IS NOT registered to vote in the Irvington School District or NOT registered to vote any election Westchester County government, make sure they register to vote on time for the May 15 election, and of course for the November Presidential and other elections in 2012 too!
