Letter: Irvington Mayor Says Go Vote

Irvington Mayor Brian Smith writes a regular village-wide email, which he has allowed The Daily Tarrytown to reprint here.

Election Day

We are very lucky to have five candidates running for two positions on the Board of Education.  While I am sure you cannot miss the signs all over the Village announcing their candidacies, today is the day to vote: polls are open until 9 p.m. at the Main Street School.  If you are still unsure who to vote for, both the Daily Tarrytown and the Rivertowns Patch have had extensive coverage of the candidates.  In addition to the Board of Education Trustee positions, you will also be voting on the 2012-2013 school budget. Priorities At tomorrow’s work session, the Board of Trustees will be discussing our priorities for the current year.  If you have thoughts on what we should be focusing on in the Village, please send me an e-mail. Rain Barrels and Composters Available Groundwork Hudson Valley and Southern Westchester Energy Action Consortium (SWEAC), together with the Irvington Green Policy Task Force, are sponsoring a Compost Bin and Rain Barrel Sale which allows you to purchase these great items at a great discount. If you don’t have a rain barrel or compost bin, this is the time to order one. In fact, the deadline to be able to pick up these items in Irvington is tomorrow.  The details:

Earth Machine Compost Bin $55 (regularly retails for $145) Systern Rain Barrel $75 (regularly retails for $125)

So, pre-order by May 16 for pickup May 20 at the Irvington Public Library parking lot between the hours of 2:30 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. Pre-order online at Irvington Girls Basketball Celebration As I mentioned in my last e-mail, on May 20th from 4 p.m.-7 p.m. we will be celebrating the Irvington Girls Basketball Team’s State and Federation Championships on Main Street, outside the Fire House.  The Irvington Fire Company and the Irvington Recreation Department are planning a wonderful “block party” and I will be presenting the team with “Keys to the Village.”  Please join us at this free event as we revel in the tremendous success, as well as the tremendous citizens, that represent Irvington as the Lady Bulldogs. As always, please contact me with any question or comments about things going on in the Village.Brian C.
